What is self-esteem?
Self-esteem is a combination of: who you are, how you feel about yourself and what you think you are capable of. Self-esteem either takes root or withers and dies, depending on how you (the parent) and I (the school) handle children's needs. All you need is faith in the child's ability. It is also the highest form of encouragement. Only when you believe.truly believe in a child, can she believe in herself.

You are the first mentor
We cannot stress enough that as parents, your responsibility comes first. Your child wants to be like you and more importantly, to be liked by you. Children need to know that their parents approve of them, love them and cherish them just the way they are — without malice or prejudice.

  • Give them lots of praise, love, and affection. This will them feel worthy
  • Teach them to learn to do things themselves. This helps them feel competent
  • Believe in them as you would an honest person. This lets them feel trustworthy
  • Help them deal with mistakes and failure by being supportive and offering constructive feedback. This gives them self-esteem

A child who learns to value himself will no doubt learn to value every thing and everybody around himself.
